The Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunt

What is a Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunt?

Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunts are outdoor scavenger hunts designed for families with children. Scavenger hunts bring a user to a unique location and present a story line with educational riddles.  When the user solves all of the riddles, a completion code is generated. When you send us your completion code, we ship you a prize.

What Are the Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunt Completion Prizes?

Trailmix.Net completion awards are collectable coins that are minted for each Scavenger Hunt.   Each coin series has it's own iconography and/or artwork that relates to its corresponding Scavenger Hunt.  In some cases, such as the Yosemite National Park Scavenger Hunt, each coin is individually numbered.

Trailmix.Net Completion Award Coins are never sold, are not sold separately, and  are protected by copyright.

Where did the idea for Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunts come from?

Trailmix.Net scavenger hunts are loosely based upon an educational strategy known as Problem Based Learning.

In Problem Based Learning, students collaborate in groups to solve unstructured problems.  Originally developed in medical schools, common characteristics of Problem Based Learning include:

Learning driven by challenging, open-ended problems.

Students/Learners work together in small collaborative groups toward common goals

Teachers/Parents take on the role as "facilitators" of learning

Because of the collaborative nature of Problem Based Learning, Trailmix.Net Scavenger Hunts and expeditions can be used to develop communication, problem solving, goal setting, and independent learning skills.
